How It Works

GROW GREEN Match Day on Friday, April 20, 2018 holds incredible opportunity for nonprofit
agencies with endowed funds at the Greater Manhattan Community Foundation.  On that day,
GMCF will provide a 50% match on donations made to participating endowment funds.

Here’s how it works:

  • Donors come to the event and make a donation, or make an online donation at a remote location, to one or several of the participating organizations.

    Date:    Friday, April 20, 2018

    Time:    7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.

    (Online gifts can be made between 12:00 a.m. – 11:59 p.m. on April 20)

Place: Colony Square Atrium, 555 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, KS

  • Individual contributions ranging from $25 to $1,000 per organization will receive a local match at $.50 per $1, so a $1,000 gift can receive a $500 local match.  If a donor gives a $5,000 gift split evenly between five organizations, each group is eligible to receive a $500 match.
  • Combined donations up to a total of $20,000 will be matched at 50%, giving a maximum of $10,000 in matching funds to any one organization.
  • Gifts made by community donors will go into the organization’s endowed fund.  The match money earned by each non-profit group is an outright grant and may be used as they wish.  Some may choose to add it to the endowment or they may choose to use it for day-to-day operating expenses.
  • Gifts can be made by cash, check, or online using a credit card.  Cash & check gifts should be made in person at the event.  Credit card gifts can be made online at a remote location or at the event.  When donating by check, one check must be made payable to Greater Manhattan Community Foundation.  A separate form will be used to indicate which endowment(s) will benefit.
  • Throughout the event, one individual donor who has made a gift in person at the GROW Green event will be randomly chosen every hour (out of that hour’s donations) to win extra green ($100) for the charity of their choice.

Building endowments is critical for the future of non-profit organizations, but each one still faces monthly expenses.  They still need contributions to their annual campaigns.  GROW GREEN Match Day is an opportunity to grow their endowments, to enrich their programs for even greater impact, for years to come.

EVENT DETAILS

  • Match Day is scheduled from 7 am to 7 pm on Friday, April 20, 2018, in the atrium of Colony Square Office Complex, 555 Poyntz Avenue. (Online gifts between 12:00 a.m. - 11:59 p.m. on April 20)

  • Representatives of your organization are encouraged to be on site throughout the day, but this is not a requirement for participation.

  • GMCF staff and volunteers will be easily identified in Grow Green t-shirts. If you did not receive a shirt previously, the Foundation will provide your organization with one Grow Green t-shirt to wear at the event. Additional t-shirts may be ordered at a cost of $23 if desired.

DONATION INFORMATION

  • Donors will select which organization endowment(s) to support. 100% of their donation will go to the organization’s GMCF endowment fund. Although gifts of any amount are welcome and encouraged, donations of a minimum of $25 will receive a local match at 50¢ on the dollar up to a maximum of $1,000 per charitable organization per donor.

For example: Jane Doe makes a $1,000 donation to Organization X, $1,000 will go to the
Organization X endowment fund. Organization X will receive an outright $500 matching
grant from GMCF to use as they please. If Jane Doe makes a $2,500 donation to Organization X, the matching grant from GMCF will still be $500.

  • Combined donations up to a total of $20,000 will be matched at 50%, giving a maximum of $10,000 in matching funds to any one organization. The match money earned by each non-profit group is an outright grant and may be used as desired. (Added to endowment, added to expendable fund, or request a check to use for day-to-day operating expenses.)

  • Donations are tax deductible. If donors provide an email address, all gifts (cash, check and online) will generate a receipt at the time of the donation and an additional receipt will not be mailed. If no email address is provided, donations made by cash or check will receive a receipt letter after the event. Cash gifts will also receive a hand written receipt at the event.

  • Each individual donor should write one check made payable to GMCF for a total of all gifts to various agencies. A separate form will be used to indicate which endowment(s) will benefit.
  • Donations by participating organizations to their own fund will not qualify for the match or incentive prizes.
  • Donors are encouraged to make gifts in person at the event. If a donor is not able to attend the event and does not want to make an online gift remotely, another individual may bring a gift in for them. Checks should be dated 4/20/2018.
  • Volunteers will be available at the event to accept check & cash gifts as well as assist with online donations.
  • Donations are irrevocable and must be made on Grow Green Match Day – April 20, 2018.

PRIZE INCENTIVES

(Only applies to donors who make gifts in person at Colony Square Office Complex)
