Build a brighter future through Outdoor Education!

The Flint Hills Discovery Center's Outdoor Classroom Renovation Project will transform an already promising space into a year-round setting for hands-on learning, exploration, and connection to the Flint Hills.

This renovation will create a dedicated all-weather, all-seasons learning environment with a dedicated shade structure, improved privacy screening, accessible boardwalk connections through native plant areas, and enhanced landscaping that deepens the visitor's experience.

But critically, your support during GROW Green will directly equip the space with supplies and tools needed for hands-on discovery- from field guides and scientific instruments to seating, storage, art materials, and specimens. Your support will help young learners build confidence, curiosity, and lasting connections to the Flint Hills.

By investing into this project, you are not simply funding a physical space; you are helping create brighter futures through education, community enrichment, and a meaningful outdoor experience for the next generation.

Mission

The Flint Hills Discovery Center Foundation functions to advance the mission and work of the Flint Hills Discovery Center through dynamic and vibrant development programs which identify, cultivate, solicit, and express appreciation to donors of the Foundation. The Foundation seeks gifts in support of the Flint Hills Discovery Center, including capital, endowments, deferred gifts, and special program support.

Profile

The Foundation is the charitable arm of the Flint Hills Discovery Center. The Foundation engages donors whose contributions enable the Discovery Center to provide programs and services which advocate for and advance the preservation and conservation of the Flint Hills. One way that this is done is through the Flint Hills Discovery Center Youth Education Endowment. This endowment is for youth education program uses only.

The Flint Hills Discovery Center Foundation has provided fiscal sponsorship for several very unique Flint Hills educational programs. These outstanding programs offered an extraordinary opportunity for the Foundation to support the Flint Hills Discovery Center's regional mission of connecting children, teachers and schools to the rich dimension of the Flint Hills and sharing with a broad audience the special story of the history of the Flint Hills.

Goal of the Endowment: To raise $1,000,000 to establish a permanent endowment that would sustain Flint Hills Discovery Center youth programming and events in perpetuity. The funds will be used to expand, continue, and improve the Flint Hills Discovery Center opportunities to inform youth about this unique region whether they live in the area or have travelled here to enjoy the benefits of Manhattan and the surrounding Flint Hills region.
