Goal: $9,000.00
Specific Need
Kids Bikes Recycling's goal for 2026 is to raise $ 9,000 to continue taking in bikes, refurbishing them, and getting them out to children. We continue to transform 2 storage containers to accommodate 100 adult bicycles for swaps.
Mission
Kids Bikes Recycling is a passionate team of volunteers dedicated to spreading the joy of cycling and recycling! We give new life to bikes and match them with excited kids at two fun-filled bike swaps: one in late April in Manhattan, KS, and another at our energetic August Back to School event in Ogden, KS. Every bike is safety-tuned with fresh brake pads, tubes, cables, shifters, or chains as needed. At our lively events, we swap bikes, pump up tires, and help kids get rolling all year long. Each child gets the option of a new helmet, and fun extras like bells and streamers to make every ride special. We anticipate handling 600 bicycles this year! 2026 marks our ninth year as a proud Greater Manhattan Community Foundation Fund!
Profile
Our events are thriving—over 500 people attended our Manhattan and Ogden bike swaps, where we traded 350 bikes and gave away 75 more to families in need. This surge in support shows the growing community enthusiasm. In 2026, we’ll kick off the April 26 Manhattan event with 220+ bikes ready to roll. We have no paid staff. Our most significant expenses include parts, storage, and U-Haul truck rental to move bicycles.
Manhattan has created and connected many paths to allow children to bicycle or walk to school. Our program helps children use that infrastructure to build public health, have fun, and get to school and other programs.
