As the need for financial assistance grows, more families and organizations are turning to us for help. Our mission is to keep people housed and their lights on. Our community relies on us to help individuals maintain stability once they have a place to live. We provide rent assistance not only for those without housing aid but also for individuals supported by the Manhattan Housing Authority, Section 8, BeAble housing, and Oxford House—ensuring they can stay on their feet.

Shepherd’s Crossing provides more than financial assistance for rent, utilities, and prescriptions—we offer guidance and support to help individuals build self-sufficient, dignified lives. Our success is driven by the dedication of our volunteers and our small but mighty team of three, who work tirelessly to make our financial outreach impactful.

Our trained volunteer counselors take the time to listen, understanding each client's unique situation. Together, they review a detailed budget, identifying the root causes of financial hardship—whether it’s medical bills, missed work, or unexpected expenses. Beyond immediate relief, we focus on restoring hope, easing anxieties, and equipping individuals with the tools they need for long-term stability.

Research shows that early intervention in financial crises is far more cost-effective than waiting until situations worsen. Without timely support, individuals often become more dependent on charitable and government resources. At Shepherd’s Crossing, we believe assistance should be empowering, not enabling. Our vetting process and database allow us to identify patterns, ask the right questions, and provide guidance that fosters lasting financial stability.

Our impact extends beyond individuals and families—we help build a stronger, more connected community by collaborating with trusted partners like the Flinthills Breadbasket, Konza Community Health Center, Pawnee Mental Health, The Crisis Center, The Fairy Godmothers, The Guardians, Nourish Together, Flint Hills Habitat for Humanity, BeAble and many more. These relationships strengthen our ability to provide comprehensive support to those in need.

You can be confident that your donation directly helps people in crisis. Thanks to the generosity of FUMC, we have no overhead costs for rent and utilities, and grants have already covered our technology expenses. We operate with a lean staff to ensure that more resources go directly to those in need. Your donation helps keep families housed, their lights on, and their lives stable.
